What Lies Ahead...

"That was TOO easy! Ha! Those freaks never stood a chance." The man in front of Verasha was elbowing his friend. "Although I have to say this for ya, monkey girl... You're not half bad." He smiled and looked back at her, winking.

Verasha shrugged and tossed aside the sack that she had been carrying with little care for the contents inside.

The man's friend leaned over to whisper loudly, "does she EVER talk? And why does SHE act like she's better then us? Hmph. I tell you Shiru, Freeza lets the Saiyans have way to much freedom."

Verasha turned her back to the smirking men and went in search of Subru. He had his back to her, but she could see by the tenseness of his muscles that he was talking to some one he didn't like. As she got closer he glanced back at her then gave her a half smile. He moved to one side and the person he was talking to came into view. Verasha gritted her teeth and willed herself to keeping walking forward.

"Ah! Is this your Saiyan, Subru?" Freeza chuckled and tilted his head to the side. "They've been a lot of help with conquering the planets we tell them to. Vegeta and his cronies have already tripled our in-take... Hmmmm..." He held up one hand to stop Verasha. She stared straight ahead as Freeza looked her over, then peered into her face. "They all are so serious though. You'd think that a race a such the saiyans wouldn't mind fighting and destroying."

Subru gave Verasha a long look, trying to impart to her to keep silent, then looked down at his feet. "If I may suggest something, sire?"

Freeza stopped his staring at Verasha to glance briefly at Subru. "And what's that?"

Subru snorted and leaned against one of the beams in the room. He gave Verasha an apologetic look then smiled. "They ARE animals Sir... Maybe if we rewarded them with some thing, they might even be more productive. Or put their heart into what they're doing. We could make an experiment out of my saiyan. Give her to yours for a night, maybe that's all that he needs to put a smile on his face." He smirked and lifted his eyebrows.

Freeza walked slowly towards Subru, his tail moving lazily. "We don't know how they react around each other. What if Vegeta kills your saiyan? Or the other way around?"

Subru shrugged again. "Doesn't make any difference to me."

Freeza rolled his eyes and glanced back at Verasha, who still stared straight ahead, trying her hardest to keep her tail from fluffing. "Alright... He HAS been doing well. You know where I quarter the saiyans? Then have her over there in a few hours." He sniffed and turned on his heel. "And do have her clean up a bit, unless the scent of blood and sweat turns them on..." He laughed as he walked away.

Verasha let out a loud sigh as soon as Freeza wasn't in hearing distance. Then she turned to Subru, a smile playing across her face, the first one he had seen in months. She looked around, then once she noticed that they were alone she smacked the back of his head. "I don't know how to thank you, but if I ever hear you talk about me like that again..." She blinked at the slight dejected look about him. "I uh... Didn't really hit you that hard... did I?" Verasha frowned until she heard him laugh.

"In your dreams." Subru ruffled her hair, knowing very well that she hated it when he did that. "Have fun tonight."

With a puzzled look Verasha nodded, then shrugged as she sauntered of to her temporary room to clean up.

Verasha pressed her palm against the blue panel and in a calm voice said, "Area forty, level three, section sixty." The lift whirled for a few seconds as the blue panel blinked twice, then turned red. Having been used to traveling on the lift for a long time now, Verasha leaned against the wall as the slightest pressure pulled her downward, a sign that the lift was moving to her directions. Bright lights flickered passed as the lift pressed downward in the large city. The planet they had taken as their base of operations no longer appeared to be a planet, just one never-ending city. It even extended deep underground as well. From what Subru had told Verasha, this planet was taken over by Freeza's grandfather in their race's first conquest. Nothing remained of the old civilization; not even it's people. The thought filled Verasha with bitterness. "Someday... Someday those who've lost their lives because of Freeza will get their revenge." Verasha gritted her teeth. "And I will be there, to see the fear in his eyes before he dies," she mumbled and clenched her fist, wishing there was something unbreakable for her to hit.

Her mind wandered back to what she had been trying hard not to think about, Vegeta. Was he mindless slave, much like the other drones she had seen? Or had his spirit been broken? A wave of guilt washed over Verasha, which she firmly suppressed. She should be glad to see her old friend... And mate, if he still wanted it that way.

The lift came to a halt, then smoothly slid left towards the final leg of her journey. The past year had been full of memories she wished she could forget. Taking over planets with such ruthlessness wasn't in her nature, but living and getting stronger to avenging her people was. Verasha hugged herself tightly, trying chasing away the awful images of innocent people dyeing. She took in a deep breath as she concentrated on how happy she was to see the closest person to her.

Every other female in the city insisted on looking as boyish as they could, not wanting to attract unwanted attention. Verasha could protect herself, so she never bothered with that detail. She tonight she chose to ware her favorite band's shirt, knowing that Vegeta always laughed at her love of music. The black shirt fitted her well, the blood red lettering scrawled across her chest. Her short black skirt was belted around her hips by a silver band with a large bell buckle just below her belly button. She was wearing her favorite boots that came half way up her shins, with red trimming and red laces.

The panel suddenly turned blue just as the lift came to a halt. As the silver doors slid back, a cold voice slowly repeated the directions Verasha had given the lift. She hesitated a little before striding out of the small lift. Room thirty-six was what she was looking for, and the door closest to her read three. "Oh man..." The rooms weren't evenly spaced, and the higher the number, the bigger the room. After ten minutes of walking through the boringly white hallway a door opened a little ahead of her. The person who came out of it made Verasha freeze in her tracts.
